SEO for Travel Companies
Stop losing bookings to OTAs and Competitors
You built something worth finding. The problem isn’t your product, it’s that the right traveler can’t find you when they’re looking.
HentyWorks is an SEO agency that works with travel companies. Our unique angle of understanding booking intent, seasonal search patterns, and the specific ways travelers research before they commit helps shape everything we do.

Why travel SEO is different and why it matters
Travel is one of the most competitive verticals in organic search. OTAs like Viator, TripAdvisor, and GetYourGuide have enormous ad budgets and domain authority. Generic SEO strategies don’t cut through.
What most agencies don’t realize is:
– OTAs dominate broad terms, not specific ones
– You can still win terms like ‘Small group kayaking tour Alaska’ or ‘private wine tour Bordeaux for Americans’ are winnable
– Using long-tail keywords with strong booking intent can make big competition much more manageable

Travel SEO FAQs
Should we write destination guides, or focus on our tour pages?
Both, but they do different jobs and shouldn't be measured the same way. Tour and itinerary pages capture people ready to book. Destination content catches people much earlier and does a lot of work establishing brand. Pieces like "best time to hike the Dolomites," "how hard is the Camino" act as a way to get you into consideration before potential clients have even picked an operator.
Our booking engine is on a different domain. Does that matter?
Yes, in two ways. 1) You lose the ability to track which organic pages actually produce bookings, so you're optimizing blind. And 2) if the handoff is clunky, you're leaking conversions at the last step. Neither is a reason to switch systems, but both need to be solved before determining what marketing channel is best for you.
Our site is image-heavy. Is that hurting us?
Unless your images are optimized, probably, yes. It's a common technical issue in the travel industry. Beautiful photography is non-negotiable, but uncompressed hero images and gallery sliders routinely push mobile load times past the point where a meaningful share of visitors leave before the page even renders.
Does seasonality mean our traffic will always be up and down?
Yes, and that's fine. It's important to compare metrics year over year, not month over month. A 40% drop from July to October means nothing. What matters is whether this October beat last October. Reporting that doesn't account for that will have you panicking every autumn.
How much do reviews matter for travel?
Think about when you're booking a trip... are you going with the company that has three 5 star reviews or are you going with the company that has three hundred? Review generation isn't strictly SEO, but ignoring it while doing SEO is like fixing the engine and leaving the tires flat.

How We Build Organic Growth for Travel Operators
1. Keyword research built around booking intent
We don’t chase volume for its own sake. We identify the specific phrases your ideal traveler uses when they’re ready to book and build your content and pages around those.
2. On-page and technical SEO
Tour pages, destination pages, itinerary content get optimized the way Google indexes travel content, including schema markup (TouristTrip, Review, FAQ) that makes your listings stand out in results.
3. Content that earns trust and rankings
Destination guides, comparison content, expert-led articles written by people who understand travel, not just SEO. Content that earns links from travel media and builds topical authority over time.
4. Local and regional SEO
For operators with a geographic focus, we build the local authority that puts you in the Map Pack and ahead of national directories for the searches that matter most in your area.
5. Reporting tied to revenue, not rankings
You don’t care about keyword positions. You care about bookings. We report on booking-intent traffic, lead generation, and estimated revenue impact every month, in plain language.
